Starting in Mto wa Mbu , you will walk along the foot of the Great Rift Valley. The farmers in this area mainly grow bananas (up to 30 different varieties) and the big leaves provide a pleasant shade from the sun. Along the way, you will visit several farms and learn about the irrigation methods used locally. Finally, you will climb Balaa hill, “the Hill of Misfortune” and enjoy the beautiful view over the green oasis of Mto wa Mbu, Lake Manyara and the Maasai Steppe beyond. At the summit your guide will explain how the hill got its mysterious name.
